Not every bite at Two Steps is perfect; some diners wish for an even crispier batter on the fish. A few regulars express the desire for faster service during peak hours, especially when the line can stretch out the door. Those looking for unique sauces might find the selection a touch conventional, with traditional options dominating.
Additionally, while the experience is fantastic, a handful of diners feel that the establishment could modernize its decor to match the quality of the food. However, these critiques often come from a place of fondness for the eatery; after all, locals appreciate Two Steps for maintaining its charm.
Not been here for over five years, the lunchtime small portions £5.10 are still good value and tasty😋 The batter could have been more crispy!
My aunt was not happy as she had cooked food awaiting our visit to Sheffield. Haddock chips and mushy peas with dandelion and burdock to wash it down. Really tasty haddock, batter was good , chips enough to feed 3 people and ,I asked for regular, and really tasty mushy peas not bland at all, really enjoyed the food and worth the 12.50£ I paid. Nice staff and owner and great to see history laden places still open and doing well.
Visited Sheffield for the weekend & wanted to try a local dish. Found out that "fishcakes" are done a little differently here and after reading a few online articles, decided to try my first fishcakes at Two Steps following the recommendations. And oh my god was it good! Crispy batter, fondant potatoes, tasty fish. My only regret is that I didn't buy two because the first one finished so quickly. I would highly recommend Two Steps & of course their fishcake- a Sheffield speciality!
£4.75 for the mini fish & chips (plus mushy peas) is great value and was both delicious and a good-sized portion. Very happy. Will definitely be coming back.
Wonderful, historic, value for money chippy. Got small chips to take away. Barely got a photo because I scarfed them so fast. Might not look like much but they were so fluffy and good! Lots of crunchy ones.
Decent chippy, prices are quite high for what it is. Should have more lunchtime special options. Will return
